DIG IN, WE DARE YOU!
The other day one of our athletes mentioned that every time she hears the song, "Most Girls," she thinks of RISE. What. A. Compliment. So. Cool. I almost stopped running on the tread to hug her. From the very beginning, our RISE team has had a different focus than most representatives in our industry. We want to dig deeper. We felt like there was something missing that the media wasn't covering:
1. We want to serve people; to help each athlete, no matter their fitness level to start, to be their best selves so that they realize their own strength. As a result, we hope that they will go out into the world with more energy and zeal to leave it a better place. Domino effect.
2. We believe in BALANCE, having a RELENTLESS spirit, and PURPOSEFUL programming.
3. THIS IS THE BIG ONE: We believe in SCIENCE. Period. We avoid fads that the media will fight hard to make people believe even if it means standing up to the big guys to claim a voice for the truth.
Our new studio has brought a different trial each week asking us to grow and stand strong in our beliefs and goals as a team. Everywhere we turn, we see social media waves of svelte bodies, shots of people's bodies who use "body acceptance" as an excuse to be naked publicly, and photo-shopped versions of trainers. (Here is an example that happens to include RISE. They put our ad right beside one of these photos - quite a juxtaposition & just the inspiration I needed to write this post.)
When I see these images, I worry about the focus of the health & fitness industry. Why are we not focusing on real strength, being able to do things that we couldn't before, growing towards a better version of ourselves, remembering our grit, the value of discipline, practicing mindfulness and transferring these lessons into our lives outside of our workouts? The truth is hard to accept. It's easier to forget about these things. It's easier to just discuss health & fitness on a surface level, focus on a scale, eat our greens, and pretend that there's nothing more to it. Well there can be more if we want it and choose it.
When we walk into RISE each morning, we are surrounded by people who have real-life struggles, who show up anyway, and who choose to put their feet on the ground with intention. I am grateful to these people because they remind me when I let my mind doubt or I let the negative thoughts creep in to stay the course. This is a community with roots that run deep and I love every second.
Come in, dig deep, and use your body to remind yourself what you are capable of and your priorities, and receive life lessons that you are happy to share with your family & friends.
