Live Heart Rate Monitoring & Reaching Your Goals
Have you checked your data lately? We can not get enough of live heart rate monitoring and the data notifications that our athletes receive after class! Science drives us, inspires us and keeps us learning every day at RISE. With live heart rate monitoring being the future of our industry, we know that the data we can give our community will continue to expand over time giving the power back to each athlete. With knowledge comes power, right? We think so...as long as everyone understands the data! Below are a few tips to understand how to interpret your data and how you can use it to reach your goals.
Our favorite info that is delivered to our athletes post-workout is the average heart rate and max heart rate. Each of our classes has a goal range to spend the majority of class in (typically between 75-90% of your heart rate max). By remaining in the recommended zones during class, you will better be able to improve your cardiovascular fitness level over time. You will hear RISE trainers talk about VO2max a lot which equates to the speed at which our bodies can put oxygen to work. The more consistent we are with our interval training workouts, the more efficient our bodies become. This means that we see an improvement over time in heart rate response to exercise. In other words, you can look back to day 1 at RISE and now day 300 to visually see what you already feel!
Also, this data can encourage you to stay on balance if you have a week when your heart rate max is higher than normal - it can be a warning sign that you need to rest up, hydrate, and check in on your nutrition.
Another piece of information given to our athletes in their daily summary is calories burned. Did you know that a caloric deficit of 3500 calories = 1lb of fat lost? This is powerful information if you are hoping to lower your body fat or lose weight. However, in order to lose weight and keep it off, we must fuel properly. This takes planning, food preparation and discipline - all three things that we discuss and encourage in our RISE To The Challenge beginning Monday! I recorded a little invite below if you are interested, but you can also read more & register here.
Happy data tracking and TGIF! -Michelle
