Why Is My Heart Rate So High This Week?
We hear this question all of the time: Why is my heart rate so high this week? Normally my heart rate is in the green zone for strength on Wednesdays, but today I was in the orange and red. With Spring Break imbibing on everyone's minds, it is the perfect time to talk about variables associated with an unusually high heart rate (we all know that dehydration makes a difference). Take a look at the list below and be honest with yourself. Some of these variables can be controlled, but will require a change in habits. Remember, YOU CAN DO HARD THINGS.
This list is what our [certified] personal trainers and running coaches refer to when discussing possibilities with our athletes.
Controllable (Variables that we can control)
Electrolyte Levels (Sodium, Potassium, Magnesium)
Sleep/Quality of Sleep
Poor Nutrition/Lack of Enough Calories or Macronutrients
Lack of Recovery and Rest
Too Many Training Periods back-to-back
Overall Fitness Level
High Blood Pressure/Heart Disease/Atherosclerosis etc
Too Much Caffeine
Too few calories consumed daily
Too many periods back-to-back
Family History of Heart Disease or other Heart Conditions
So our question to you is: can you identify which ones apply to you? Can you make a change? We believe that YOU CAN and that your body will thank you for it.
