RISE Athlete Spotlight: Angela B
Angela started her fitness journey at RISE in 2019 with her eyes on a sub 2 hour half marathon. After struggling with overuse running injuries (a broken foot twice!) she realized that finding a great strength, running and cross training routine could be the ticket. Angela is running the Cap City Half Marathon with RISE Run Club this Spring. She has put in the work to build a base level of strength and endurance as well as weekly mileage. She embodies our YOU WILL YOU CAN YOU ARE mantra and is a purposeful, energetic athlete. Angela, we can't wait to coach you towards your start line. You ARE going to run strong and finish fast.
What inspired your path towards better health in 2019?
I’ve always wanted to run a sub 2 hour half marathon. I’ve trained by myself and last year ran a 2:07 - the closest I’ve been to my pr of 2:02. I knew if I wanted to reach my goals I was going to need a personalized training program and a supportive team. I’m so excited for this year and I can’t wait to start my half marathon training with Rise.
I wanted to try something different and I loved that RISE is marketed as an indoor running studio! Although it’s not just for runners it’s definitely making me a better runner. I absolutely love all the support and encouragement from the trainers and the live heart rate monitoring allows me to ensure I’m pushing myself. Every workout is fun and challenging and I know that no matter what class I take I’ll challenge myself to be the best I can.
What have you learned about yourself?
I’ve learned that I’m faster and stronger than I thought I was and I can push myself past what I thought were my limits. After I broke my foot - twice - I was beginning to think I could never “be fast” again. Working out at Rise has allowed me to challenge myself and realize I can do more than I thought.
What were your initial goals? How have your goals transformed over time?
My initial goal was to change up my workout routine and find the fun in working out again, however once I started to see how much I was improving, I’ve definitely set my goal to finally get my sub 2 hour half marathon!
What’s your favorite class? Favorite exercise? Least favorite exercise?
Favorite class is by far HIIT It Rise- the first class I took was the HIIT Rise day after Halloween class- I almost died but it got me hooked. Favorite exercise is Turkish getups and least favorite is burpees - also pushups and planks.
What do you want others to know?
Training really is better with a good community- I use to always train by myself and didn’t know if I would like training in a group as I tried group training before for a marathon and it wasn’t what I wanted. As it turns out you just need to find the right group- and now I know I am a part of a community that will support me and encourage me while I achieve my goals.
