Columbus, OH – The treadmill can conjure up thoughts of a lonely, 60-minutes spent staring at a wall, but a new fitness studio in Upper Arlington is ready to challenge that idea. RISE Fitness Community will introduce Ohio’s first treadmill-based, large group, indoor running program - RISE Run Club.
Until now, this type of class was only available at studios in New York City, Los Angeles and Boston, but RISE founders Michelle Fleming and Jessica Kopp believe central Ohio is ready to embrace this new approach.
The RISE Fitness Community Team is preparing for their Grand Opening Celebration at 4499 Kenny Road in Upper Arlington on Saturday, May 20 from 12-4pm – but they have been building their fitness and running community for more than three years.
Designed to support both beginner and experienced runners, their unique RISE Run Club is positioned to meet both general fitness goals and more specific marathon training goals.
Benefits to treadmill-based, group indoor running classes:
• Everyone stays together in one pack, but runs at his or her own pace;
• Music and lighting bring energy and focus to what used to be a boring workout;
• Experienced and enthusiastic coaches offer instruction and variety; and
• It’s INSIDE, so unpredictable Ohio weather no longer impacts your group run.
In addition to RISE Fitness Community’s unique treadmill-based, group running program, the studio will offer a second program called HIIT IT, a high intensity interval training program. Both RISE Run Club and HIIT IT are a great fit for beginner fitness enthusiasts and accomplished athletes.
Before they had a single square foot of space, RISE Fitness Community recruited hundreds of members (called “athletes” within the Community). Fleming and Kopp relied on social media and emerging technology to stay connected with their members and help them stay accountable – but it’s the word “community” that best describes their approach. At the heart of RISE is the desire to create real relationships and foster long-term lifestyle changes.
“Our growth has been really organic,” says Fleming. What started as a few women meeting at the park to train and run together has evolved into a full community of athletes and a full-time business for Fleming and Kopp, both moms to elementary-aged kids.
An exercise science graduate from Miami University and ACSM Exercise Physiologist, Fleming is keen on data-driven programming, and steers clear of fitness trends and fads that aren’t supported by science. Utilizing live heart rate and progress tracking technology, she wants to take the emphasis off the dreaded scale and help members find success in a balanced lifestyle.
Kopp is a former college athlete and running enthusiast, who originally came to Michelle as a client interested in reclaiming her fit and healthy lifestyle. She is an American Council on Exercise (ACE) personal trainer and certified nutrition specialist, who uses her experiences to encourage, motivate and lead members through any challenge.
“We know how intimidating it can feel to join a new gym or start a new fitness routine,” says Fleming. “We strive to create a community where all are welcome and all are treated with dignity and respect.”
“We want our athletes to leave each workout feeling stronger, more energized and prepared to face any challenge with confidence,” adds Fleming.
