These athletes are real people taking care of their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health, AND leading our team in the studio daily. FINAL BIG HITTER: EMILY S.
Q: What made you change your path in 2018? I was tired of working out by myself, running in the cold, not having any sort of plan other than running a few days a week and doing random workout videos (that felt more like a warm-up compared to what I'm doing at RISE now) the other days. The first time I worked out at RISE I left saying to myself, "This is exactly how I want to feel every time I work out." I love knowing I've been pushed and challenged, and that every time I come back stronger than I was the last time. RISE set the bar so high for what a good workout is, I knew I couldn't get that anywhere else, and I had to keep coming back.
Q: Why RISE? I love the community. It's so fun working out with other people and being pushed to work my hardest because I know they're working their hardest. All the trainers are amazing, too. It's such a positive and encouraging environment. RISE is committed to developing well-rounded athletes, so I know the workouts are making me a better, faster, stronger runner, and I'm decreasing my risk of injury.
Q: What have you learned about yourself? I am capable of so much more than I ever knew AND how much I love to be pushed to give a little more. The workout really won't break me, and it will only make me stronger. I love the pain of doing a great workout and then the satisfaction of knowing I did it.
Q: What were your initial goals? How have your goals transformed over time? At first I just wanted to get a good workout. I knew RISE would be exactly what I needed to take my fitness to the next level. Now my goals are to see my heart rate response improve and to never leave the studio just going through the motions. I want to leave every time knowing I gave it my all and that I didn't sell myself short. I also want to be able to do pistol squats.
Q: What's your favorite class? Favorite exercise? Least favorite exercise? Power is my favorite. My favorite exercise is any type of plank. They feel like a little vacation in the middle of the workout. I hate seal jacks. Ugh.
Q: What do you want others to know? I've had other people jokingly ask me if RISE is paying me to talk it up....no, I just love it and can't stop sharing how much I love going, how awesome the workouts are, how awesome the trainers and other athletes are and how much I've improved as an athlete. Regardless of your current fitness level, RISE will take you to the next step. You don't know what you're missing if you're just showing up at a gym and doing your own thing.
As a mom of 4 incredible kids, a photographer (@emilysommerphotography) and tough-as-nails athlete, Emily knows what it takes to juggle. She manages to be organized, on time, present, and intentional. Just being around this one makes us all want to be better than we were before. Her teammates would call her a good apple and a secret competitor.
Emily, thank you for choosing RISE. Your speed and strength have improved so much over the last year. We know that 2019 has even more in store for you. Let's do this!
