It's our favorite time of year: RISE ATHLETE Spotlights!
These athletes are real people taking care of their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health, AND leading our team in the studio daily. NEXT UP TO BAT: KELLY K. [On Deck: MICHAELA M]
Q: What made you change your path in 2018? I have always loved working out and trying new classes. I decided to give Rise a try a year ago and loved everything about it. It’s welcoming, easy to get into a class and all instructors are knowledgeable and encouraging.
Q: Why RISE? I really enjoy the atmosphere and community. I like having the flexibility of choosing between running or HIIT IT depending on how my body is feeling. No matter what, I know I’ll be challenged.
Q: What have you learned about yourself? I am competitive with myself using the target heart rate monitors and even the athletes next to me. I have found I like to be pushed and it’s hard for me to take it easy!
Q: What were your initial goals? How have your goals transformed over time?I’m not sure I started with specific goals but have learned I enjoy running more that I thought. I have become a better runner and have seen my speed increase as well as my overall strength.
Q: What's your favorite class? Favorite exercise? Least favorite exercise? Hmmm, toss up between anything goes Fridays or Precision. Least favorite exercise may be toe taps or jump ups on the bench and like all things core.
Q: What do you want others to know? Rise has it all. Great classes, access to exercise physiologists, nutritionist, and physical therapists. Really is a whole body fitness studio!
With a background in exercise physiology and a former collegiate athlete in Miami U's Athletic Hall of Fame, Kelly knows what she wants when she walks into RISE. She needs an adrenaline pump, enough strength training to help her maintain a baseline strength level (you should see her handstand), and to start her day on the right foot. There's no time to mess around when you need to be at school by 7am to teach teenagers how to move their bodies and hopefully to help them learn through movement what she knows to be the truth: that exercise is medicine. Kelly, thank you for being a part of RISE, for demonstrating a "no excuses" attitude, and for leading by example around the studio. We can't wait to see what you do this year.
