This July we kick off another season of half & full marathon training. We can not wait because as trainers we have another opportunity to serve RISE Run Club athletes. We help our team gain strength, overcome obstacles and find meaning in their miles. If you ask our fearless leader, Coach Sara, what her favorite part of training season she will say it is the WHY. A few years ago, Sara ran The New York City Marathon for her son Collin whom she lost when he was just a few months old. Last year RISE athlete Molly Mandel ran for her sister whose foundation is still helping those who struggle with mental health & drug abuse. This Fall I am running the NYC Marathon to raise money & awareness for The National Hemophilia Foundation (two of my brothers have mild hemophilia and many females in my family are symptomatic carriers).
As a team, RISE Run Club works towards the physical goal of 13.1 and 26.2, but the coolest part is the community support of each person's WHY - the struggles that are on our minds during the miles. These struggles and the overcoming is why we, as coaches and trainers, cry on race day watching our athletes become their best selves. It's just so symbolic: a metaphor for life that says, "This is so hard and I don't know how to quit no matter what."
In our most recent season, we had a mom of 4 kids run her first half, 75% of our athletes run for personal record times & negative splits, and ZERO injuries which is unheard of in this sport. When you hear RISE trainers & coaches say "Run strong & finish fast" we mean it. Our program prioritizes 3 runs each week with 2 cross training days that include low impact strength & cardio. Our goal is to prioritize the runs, but to be sure that the miles are quality and with purpose. We know that athletes who take the time to gain strength + limit the repetitive pounding (via wasted miles) are less likely to get injured and instead stand at the start line ready to go.
If you are ready to dig deep and find your strongest self, consider joining our RRC team to train for your Fall race. You wil be guided by RRCA certified running coaches, certified personal trainers and experienced marathoners. On race day, when you run by we promise to ring our bells, scream our hearts out and get you pumped up for your fast finish.
"Somehow we've come to believe that greatness is only for the chosen few, for the superstars. The truth is, greatness is for us all. This is not about lowering our expectations; it's about raising them for every last one of us. Greatness is not in one special place, and it's not in one special person. Greatness is wherever somebody is trying to find it."
