On our [long] runs this season, we've had too much time to discuss what's going on in our studio. Seriously though, will you join us so we have new topics to talk about?
Yesterday we were talking about how many of our athletes send us messages on vacation (which we love), but often times it is because they are feeling guilty about ENJOYING time off. So we dove in deeper to discuss the difference between a needed break vs bad habits. See below for our trainer tips to decipher between the two. AND maybe choose a better routine or cycle to dive into; aiming for that growth mindset.
VACATION/A NEEDED BREAK looks like this:
Taking a weekend or a week off from your normal routine to celebrate a trip away, special time with family or a new adventure.
Still moving and taking care of ourselves in one way or another during the day (ex/walking the dog or deep stretch yoga to rejuvenate).
Enjoying food & drinks for taste rather than just health.
Soaking up the moments that we sometimes miss when we are in our normal routine.
Results: No guilt & reach goals in the expected time frame.
BAD HABIT CYCLE/ON & OFF THE HEALTH BANDWAGON looks like this:
Many weekends forgetting about our health completely (or not prioritizing it).
Drinking alcohol to the point that we're too hung over to show up for ourselves for Monday's scheduled workout.
Fueling smart for 5 days in a row and then telling ourselves we deserve to do whatever we want for the weekend - which sets off the cycle of guilt, skipping workouts, more guilt and then falling off the bandwagon for a period of time.
Results: lacks discipline & takes much longer to reach goals (if ever).
What we are trying to say is: you are allowed to take a break. In fact, we want you to do it when your body & mind ask for it. However, it can be a slippery slope. Do an honest check in with yourself, "Am I using the 'I deserve a break' cover to pretend like I'm still trying when really it is an excuse?" or is your time off planned ahead, includes physical activity and people you love, and preparing you to get after it when you return?
We will see you Monday morning!
